Lahla Smart is a Product and Graphic Designer based in London. Her expertise and passions lie in sustainability. For her, sustainability means the seamless cohesion of mainstream design and responsible creative thinking.
She studied BA(hons) Product Design Sustainable Futures at University for the Creative Arts. It is the only UK based course specialising in Sustainable Design and versed her in niche areas such as life cycle analysis (LCA), environmental legislation, sustainable materials and the importance of responsible design practice.
Lahla has a holistic approach to life and work and embodies the culture she promotes through her design, whether cycling to Brighton or fundraising to work on a marine conversation project in the Bahamas. Three years travelling Europe as a child and many other months spent exploring and working abroad in South East Asia, Egypt and Morocco underpins a proactive and imaginative nature, and has lent Lahla an original approach to design and ideas.
After graduating from UCA with First Class Honours in 2008, Lahla relocated to London and embarked upon a series of work placements and freelance projects with Worn Again, SuckUK, Wax RDC and WeMake Design. Having lived in every corner of the capital, she now resides in Highbury and spends any free time cycling the streets on her beloved Claude Butler and making the most of London’s enviable galleries and food markets. She is keen to further stretch her imagination and design skills and looks forward to working on interesting new projects in the future.
